The community of Oleander was named that because of the many oleander shrubs that grew in the area. Oleander is an evergreen shrub with fragrant red or white flowers.

The Oleander School House was next door to the Oleander Methodist Church. The school house later became a place of residence & it still exists but as a home.

This information was written by my father's cousin Gracie Griggs Cottrell.
