Joseph Homer Allen Decatur - Joseph Homer Allen, 84, of Decatur died Sept. 11,
2004. Visitation will be at noon Wednesday with the funeral and burial following
at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home and Roselawn Cemetery, the Rev. Bryan Lakey
officiating. Mr. Allen served in World War II with the U.S. Army. Marshall Space
Flight Center designated Mr. Allen a charter member and during his 37 years
there worked on proj- ects ranging from the Nike Missile, the Redstone Rocket,
the Space Shuttles and the Hubble Space Telescope. At Lockheed, he worked on the
ramp to the C-130 to ensure its airtightness. He served as a Scoutmaster to
Troop 301 and volunteered with the U.S. Jus- tice Department assisting mi-
norities and the poor to attain the right to vote in the 1960s. He was a member
of Southside Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Mary Horton Allen; three
sons, Terry Joseph Stewart and his wife and children of Boca Raton, Fla., Joseph
Da- vid Allen of Owens Cross Roads, and Anthony Wayne Allen and his wife Ann of
De- catur, and their children, Bri- an Wayne Allen of Hartselle, and Michael
Curtis Allen of Maryland, and step-grandchildren, Carl Dewayne San- ford and
Lisa Owens of Deca- tur; one daughter, Andrea Muriel Allen and her husband Jack
Richards of Tucker, Ga.; In addition, other children were very special to him.
