R. A. Burleson of Morgan County, Alabama, was found dead in the woods a few days
ago.

Dr. Rufus Columbus Burleson d. Tuesday, a.m . at Waco, age 78; B. 7 Aug. 1823 a
t Decatur, (Morgon Co.), Ala., parents Jonathan A. & Elizabeth Burleson; Father
1st cousin of Dr. Edward Burleson hero of Tx. War of Independence; Survived by
wife and 2 children: Mrs. Morris and Richard A. Burleson; Educated at Nashville
(Tn.) Univ., graduated 1840 Began ministry 1840; 1847 attended Baptist College
at Covington, Ky.; 1848 to Texas; 1853 m. Georgia Jenkins of Independence; 1885
Baylor Univ. was moved from Independence, Washington Co., to Waco Elected
president and 3 yrs. ago pres. Emeritus; Served as chaplain in CSA; At age 25,
to Galveston.
