JESSIE HALBROOKS DIED AT FORT SILL HOSPITAL
Funeral services for Jessie A. Halbrooks, who passed away last Thursday, at the
Fort Sill hospital in Oklahoma, was held Monday at 2:000 o'clock at Bethel, by
Rev. B. P. Collier, assisted by Rev. O. B. Sansbury. Interment was made there
with Howell, McAfee and Young directing.
The deceased is survived by three brothers, Floyd and John Halbrooks, of
Hartselle and Guy Halbrooks of Birmingham; four sisters Mrs Prude McCollum, Mrs
Florence Rodgers and Mrs Myrtle Wiggins of Hartselle Route 2 and Mrs Pearl
Bennett of Jacksonville, Alabama, several nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were members of the Hartselle American Legion: D. K. Wiggins,
L. H. Houston, Dr J. D. Johnston, Fred Bennett, J. M. Nelson and S. W. Praytor;
The Decatur Post of the American Legion served as honorary pallbearers. Nieces
acted as flower girls: Lucile Wiggins, Juanita Halbrooks, Sarah Wiggins,
Virginia Halbrooks, Ruth Ratliff, Mrs Lorene Moss, Mrs Vera Nance, and Mrs Leon
Bennett.
Mr Halbrooks was born and reared on Hartselle Route 2. He was 45 years old and a
member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.
Jessie returned home from the World War, only to stay a short time, he returned
to the Army, the life he loved so well and served so faithfully.
