Funeral for James W. Lynn Jr., 85, of Lynntown, was to be today, Oct. 7, 2003,
at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Slack, the Rev. Ralph
McCollu and the Rev. Cliff Mitchell officiating.
Burial was to be in Blue Springs Cemetery. Visitation was to be today from 11:30
a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Lynn died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born
March 23, 1918, in Morgan County to James Wilson Lynn Sr. and Lois Johnson Lynn.
Mr. Lynn was a tenth generation member of the long prominent Lynn family, first
settled in what is now America in 1730. He was a well respected rancher, farmer,
spouse and father. He served for 10 years as Morgan County Commissioner of
District 4, as did his father. He was instrumental in the formation of the
Northeast Morgan Water Department and served as it's first general manager. He
was an active member of the Alabama Cattleman's Association and was a charter
member and one of the founders of the Florette Community Lions Club. He will be
sorely missed, the community is losing one of it's own.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Hough Lynn; one son, James W. Lynn III, of
Huntsville; and one sister, Emma Sue Gardella of Decatur.
Pallbearers were to be John Burden, Joe Crawford, Mickey Childers, Ganes Burden,
Lloyd Brooks, Skeggs Gilchrist, Ronald Yancey and Howard Jenkins.
