LAST OF GREY HEROES DIES
Rev. McClanahan To Be Buried Sunday At Bethel
Rev. John Dandridge McClanahan, aged 99, last of Morgan County's Confederate
soldiers, died Friday night at his residence in Hartselle at 10:45 o'clock. He
had been in ill health for quite some time.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at three o'clock at Bethel Baptist Church
by Revs B. P. Collier, C. D. Boozer and Frank T. Smith. Interment will follow in
the cemetery adjacent, Peck directing
The veteran of the war between the states is survived by two sons, Robert and
Odie McClanahan of Hartselle; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers from the membership of the Masonic lodge, will be S. M. Nelson, E.
H. Phillips, E. B. Adams, Buford Bentley, C. D. Speegle, D. W. McNeill, E. A.
Oden and J. L. Roberts. Masons will have charge of the services at the graveside
and all members are asked to assemble at Fraternal Hall in Hartselle at two
o'clock Sunday afternoon.
Handling the flowers will be members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy
and of pioneer Hartselle families, including: Mesdames: L. H. Houston, Maude
Day, Clio Larkin, Arthur Stephenson, Charles Quinn, W. T. Stewart, J. A.
Hartselle and Misses Italyne Hardwick, Bertha Lee and Hattie Moore.
