James R. Stephenson, widely beloved Confederate veteran, succumbed at Benevolent Hospital here yesterday afternoon to injuries suffered in an automobile accident on July 7. He will be buried this afternoon at Bethel, Peck directing. Services will be conducted by Rev. J. D. McClannahan and Rev. S. L. Heath of Hartselle.

Mr. Stephenson is survived by four children: S. A. Stephenson, Mrs. W. C. Howell of Decatur; Mrs. J. P. Stone of Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. J. M. Forest of Sherman, Tex.

The deceased was, for many years, a member of the Bethel Baptist church.
