Shoal Creek News - We are grieved to note the death of John Stephen (Stephenson)
of Bethel. Indeed a good honest, Christian gentleman has passed to the great
beyond. Staunch and loyal to his friends, kind and loving to his family made him
a good citizen. He was buried last Monday at Bethel Church.
Jno. W. Stephenson
Bro. Jno. W. Stephenson died at the home of his son-in-law, Jno. Bean, near
Hartselle, on the 18th day of November, 1906.
Bro. Stephenson was married to Miss Lourena Love in 1857 and to this union has
been given 8 children, 6 of which are living and 2 are dead. He professed
religion in August, 1872, and joined Bethel Baptist church, of which he lived a
faithful member until his death at the ripe age of 70 years, 1 month, and 2
days.
He was also one of the men who faithfully and courageously were the gray,
through the four years of unpleasantness among the states. His remains was
interred in the Bethel cemetery n the midst of a large crowd of sorrowing
friends and relatives. Funeral service conducted by his pastor, W. J. Briscoe,
on the 19 day of November, 1906. Thus has passed away one of our best citizens,
a faithful christian, a loving father and affectionate husband.
May the Holy spirit comfort bereaved family in their time of great trouble, and
finally bring them together an unbroken family in eternity.
W. J. BRISCOE,
Falkville, Ala.
