BLACK
My maternal grandmother was Lottie Black (Orsburn). Her father William J. Black
moved the family from Morgan County to White County Arkansas in 1885 when my
grandmother was 8. William J. Black (Born 29 March 1856 Died 23 March 1923) and
Elizabeth Rutledge (Born 3 January 1860) were married on 10 March 1875 in Morgan
County. Both of them were born in Alabama. I got Williams death certificate and
it says his father's name was John and John was born in Alabama. There was no
information about his mother. I found a John Black in the 1870 Monroe County
census. He had a son named William which is the age that my William would have
been but I need to find more information before I am sure that I have the right
John Black.

WASHBURN
Researching the Washburns of Morgan County, Alabama, particularly the family of
John Anderson (1856-1940) and Katie Louise Shirley Washburn (1857-1940). Their
children were Frances L., William Lewis, James Spencer, Margaret "Maggie", John
Minor, and Pliny Frank. I would like to hear from descendants of this family. In
"The Heritage of Morgan County, Alabama" there is a photo of Maggie Washburn and
her husband Walter Lamon. I would love to have a copy of this photo, and/or any
other photos of this John and Katie's family. Katie Louise was the daughter of
Aaron Frank Shirley, who was killed in the Civil War, and later, the
step-daughter of my great-grandfather, William Bellew of Blount County, Alabama.

WIDNER/WIDENER/WIEDNER
I need Birth, Marriage, Death and Burial Places for the following people from
Morgan County: Any marriages for Nancy Jane Widner/Widener/Wiedner - possibly to
a cousin or person with the same name of Widner - would be around 1870-1875. She
later married a James Hight (or Hightower) Peek in later years. Birth of Nancy
Jane's daughter/daughters: Possibly, Sarah Jane Widner. Sarah Jane could be
Nancy Jane's much younger half-sister - about 1868-1872
Donnie/Donie/Doshie/Dossie/Caldonia/Caldocia Widner - May 1873 Any marriages of
these daughters: Sarah Jane may have married a Williams. Donnie ... Caldonia was
listed as a widow on the 1900 US Census for Morgan County, by the name of Watts.
Also, any children that these two may have had. I know Donnie/Caldonia had at
least 2 daughters, but the census said that she had given birth to 5 children
with 2 living. If available, I also need the burial place of all of these
people. I know I'm asking a lot. I appreciate any help you can give me.

born here between 1890 and 1907. Two daughter died here at a young age and I

FISHER/DANIEL
Marvin Williams and I am related to the Daniel line out of Morgan Co, Alabama.
My mother's mother was born in Morgan Co., Ida Grace Daniel. Ida's father was
Henry Daniel who married Mamie Grace Fisher. I would like Henry Daniel and Mamie
Fisher listed on your site with my E-mail address. IAt this point and time, I do
not know who Henry's parents were, all I know is that Henry Daniel was born
August 13, 1873 in Decatur, Morgan Co, Alabama. All of his children, with the
exception one, were born in Decatur, Morgan, Alabama. Henry Daniel died, July
19, 1954 in San Diego Co, California, at the age of 80. Mamie Fisher's father,
George Albert Fisher, born 15 Sept 1864 in Nova Scotia, Canada, moved to
Decatur, Morgan Co from Michigan about 1887. George Albert Fisher died May 4,
1908 in Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama and is buried in the Decatur cemetery.
Seven of George Fisher's 13 children were born in Decatur, Morgan Co. Alabama. I
highly suspect that Henry Daniel's father was S. Jefferson Daniel, who according
to the 1880 Census was living in Township 6, beat 2, page 81A, Morgan, Alabama
with his wife Matilda, son Henry and daughter Lucy. However, I have yet to find
anything to substantiate it, other than the fact that Henry and Mamie married
and lived in the area, and just happened to name their first child, George
(Mamie's father's name) Jefferson(possibly after S. Jefferson Daniel) Daniel. If
anyone might be able to help me find who Henry's father was, I would appreciate
it, or at least point me in the right direction of someone.

WASHBURN
I am interested in hearing from anyone who is researching the Morgan County
Washburns. Of particular interest is John A. Washburn and wife Louisa, who
appear in the 1910 Morgan County (Lanes) census records. Family members include
children, William, Maggie, Minor and Pliny. Who were Louisa's parents, and when
and where were John and Louisa married? Also, where is the Basham Cemetery
located? I believe there are Washburns buried there.

JOHNSON/HANKINS
I am a long time JOHNSON researcher. As one can imagine, it is a difficult name
to track. However, I do have at least one Morgan Co. connection. Canaday JOHNSON
(listed as Kennedy in the record) married Lodicia (listed as Dice in the record)
HANKINS on 10 Mar 1832, Morgan Co. (Morgan Co. records: Vol 32, pg. 21, Marriage
Book A, pg. 206. I know Lodicia had a brother named George HANKINS, and she went
to Morgan Co. with that brother after the death of her father. Canaday & Lodicia
migrated to MO @ 1850. What I am interested in are the following JOHNSON men:
Henry JOHNSON, received a land grant in Morgan Co. 15 Aug 1831: William JOHNSON,
received a land grant in Morgan Co. 12 Aug 1833: and William JOHNSON, received a
land grant in Morgan Co. 16 Oct 1835. Might there be any info on these men
and/or do you know of anybody doing research on them? My JOHNSON ancestor (given
name unknown) migrated to NE AL between 1820-1835. There were numerous male
children, so I am seeking to find out more about those that left some sort of a
record, and that were in NE AL in that time frame.Do you have any ideas that
might shed some light on my problem?

BRADLEY
Robert B. Bradley is listed in the 1900 Morgan County, AL census. Does anyone
have any information on this person? He may be the same Robert B. Bradley born
in 1879 in Alabama and listed in the 1880 Pickens County, AL census as being the
Son of Robert Bradley. Ultimately I"m trying to find information on Robert
Briscoe Bradley who had a son, Robert Thomas Bradley who was born in 1906 in
Memphis, TN. Robert Briscoe Bradley may have had a wife name either Martha or
Emma Snow.

LAMBERT/CRISCOE
Over the last 25 years my Dad has been finding links to his family tree. He was
born to Fannie Edwards Lambert in Morgan County, AL. He was taken from her by
the county and lived in an orphanage and was adopted at age 2 years. He was
located by his half brothers and sisters some 30 years later and has found bits
and pieces of his past over the last 20 years. At my request, my Dad sent for
his sealed adoption papers and they arrived today. His father was listed as
"allegedly, Boss Criscoe" of Morgan County. We had never been told that by
anyone in the family. I am curious if anyone might know anything about this
information. Since "allegedly" is how the name is listed, I pray this
information would never hurt anyone.

BADGE/PIRIE/THORNTON
My great grandparents, James Stuart Pirie and Elizabeth "Bessie" Badge were
married in Morgan County in April 1895. My grandmother Margaret Pirie and her
sister Miriam were born in Morgan County in Aug 1896 and Apr 1899, respectively.
Also had brothers James and Frank, but don't when or where they were born. I
have a date of death of James Stuart Pirie of 6 Dec 1938, but don't know where.
Bessie died in 1955 and is buried in Henderson, NC. James Stuart was born in
Canada and Bessie was born in Wales. Bessie's parents, William Praed Badge and
Margaret (Mary?) Cole were married in Wales. William was living in Morgan County
with daughter and son-in-law Edith and John Thornton when he died in 1910. Edith
and John were both born in Tennessee. If anyone has additional info on any of
these ancestors, I'd love to share notes.

BAKER/SIMONS/BURGESS
Social Security has a Wylie F. Baker born 18 April 1877 in Decatur, AL Father's
name "General Baker" Mother: "Mary Simons" We haven't been able to locate data
on any of these before 1910 (Wylie was then in SE Missouri), at which time Wylie
claimed to be 23, and not 33, so the true year of birth might have been 1887?.
Other family members included a Lance Baker, and a half brother (son of Mary
from an earlier marriage?) named Perry Frank Burgess. General Baker could have
been a General Gene Baker. Mary Simons could have been Mary Jane Simons, both
from recollections of Wylie's daughter, now 91 years old. Any assistance on
these names would be appreciated. Mary Jane Simons is probably my great
grandmother.

HENRY
My great grandmothers family lived in Morgan Co. between the 1860's and 1900.
Her name was Lillie M. Henry born 1 May 1870. I found her in the 1870 Morgan Co.
census with her parents Jacob Henry and Mary E.They must have died because I can
not find tham again, so they would be buried in Morgan Co.. In 1880, the now 3
children are listed living with Mary (Hoxter) Ludwig, M. Henry, female, 10 years
old, John, 8, and Jacob,6, as her niece and nephews. Mary Ludwig was married to
Fredrick Ludwig. Also living with her is her sister Andy C. Hoxter aged 19. I
know this is the right family because in 1900 Lillie Delaney, my gr grandmother
is listed living in Morgan Co. with her children Tommie, my grandfather, Arthur,
and Mallie. There is a D. P. Hoxter that is listed as a boarder living there
also. I think he is a uncle or a cousin. SO I am looking for any information on
these three families, Jacob and Mary Henry, the Hoxters and the Ludwigs. I
believe that Mary Henry is a Hoxter. All three families lived in Morgan Co.
Thanks for any help.

CHAMBLEE/MOON
My grandmother MARY KATHERINE (MOON) CHAMBLEE. She was born 16 August 1908 on a
small Houseboat on the Tn. River in Decatur,Ala. Her father was Joseph (Joe)
Moon. Not sure on a name of mother. We think her maiden name was Mitchell .Do
not have a given name. She had been married before to a Batey. Had a son named
William (Billy) Batey. My grandmother also had a sister named Alma Moon that was
3 when Mary was born. The mother died when Mary was 3 months old. All the
children were given away to other people to raise. They were given to people
across Sand Mountain and DeKalb Co. But the birth was in Morgan Co Decatur,
Alabama. I am searching for the name of this mother. That was married to Joe
MOON. Some where around 1900 to 1908. This is just a guess on time frame going
by the birth dates of children. Billy the half brother was born in ABT 1897-8
and Alma was born in 1905. Mary born 1908. The children never say their father
again. We know little about these people. If any one has any Information please
email me. Thanks in Advance

Morrow CemeteryWould appreciate any information on the connections of the
different families buried at Morrow Cemetery. Have wondered if they intermarried
with Robert and Jane Peden Morton Morrow's children. Also does anyone know how
to get the information the Dripping Springs DAR had when they placed the DAR
markers on Robert and Jane's graves? Does anyone know if Robert and Jane had
stones before the DAR memorials? Is the DAR Chapter still active? Do people know
of the terrible vandalization done to this beautiful little cemetery? I ask for
a lot I know, but would be happy to have any information on these folks that one
would be willing to share. We visited there and got the cemetery on video. We
showed the video at the annual SC Peden Reunion a couple of weeks ago. People
were so excited. No one had ever been there or knew about it. Jane was the
daughter of John and Margaret McDill Peden from Greenville Co, SC, originally
from County Antrim, Ireland. Hardly anyone has ever visited the SC reunion
(first was held in 1899) from Jane's family (House of Jane). We are hoping to
change that! Would be thankful to hear from anyone that is interested in this
family!
