~pp21-23: "The second store in Marion...was erected in 1822 by William Barron. A native of York District, SC, he and his brother John had moved to Jefferson County Alabama Territory in 1818. On January 18, 1820, the brothers registered for lands in the Scott's Station section of Perry Co. In 1827, William Barron...erected an elegant residence in Marion.... On April 10, 1828 [William] Barron married Julia A. Tarrant of Elyton in Jefferson Co. She was the daughter of Thomas and Malinda Tarrant. [William] Barron died on July 22, 1832, leaving a large estate to his wife and infant son. Mrs. William Barron (Julia Tarrant) was one of the major founders of Judson College, and her son, John Thomas Barron, was one of the first graduates of Howard College." [end quote]

Besides aiding the colleges, [Mrs.] Barron had donated the lot where the Baptist Church had been erected, had donated a lot for a depot, and had given her time, money and energy to worthy projects of Marion."
