p24: "The first courthouse in Marion was erected by Samuel H. Nelms, who came to Marion from Greene County, Georgia in 1822.
He later acquired Robert Smith's hotel (1826) and Anderson West's tavern (1827).
In 1834, he moved to his plantation on the Cahaba River, which he worked with the labor of 19 slaves, and where he died in 1838." [end quote]
