p20 - "In June of 1822, Mrs. Ann Smith, accompanied by her children, Caroline and Robert Nall, arrived in Marion and pitched a tent.... Coming here from Montgomery Co. NC, Mrs. Smith purchased a lot on the courhouse square where she had a pine-pole hotel erected, the first hotel in the county."
fn46 "Mrs. Smith's maiden name was Ann C. Wyatt. Her first husband, James Nall, had died, leaving her with 5 children. In 1816, she married Wiley Smith, a sheriff, who died 6 months after the marriage."

p23 - "On January 18, 1823, Caroline Nall... married George Jackson Strong, a planter in the vicinity [of Marion]. While operating a 30-slave plantation, Strong died of congestive fever on September 17, 1834, at the age of only 29 years, leaving his wife with several children. She later married Dr. David Atkin and died during the 1840's."

pp84-85 - Marion Presbyterian Church organized on 30 July 1832.... first minister, the Rev. Robert Nall, the son of Mrs. Ann Smith, ...was born 17 Oct 1805 Jackson TN; ...married 6 Dec 1832 Miss Elizabeth Woods Hoge, in Columbus OH, ..died 29 Dec 1885, Henderson NC."

June 1999 - I have just found that these folks are related to my Weissinger. Cordelia Strong, daughter of Caroline and George Strong, married Alexander Jackson Weissinger.
Their daughter, Julia Cordelia Weissinger left a marvelous family account, detailing the Nall, (Smith) Strong and Weissinger lines. See Frances Morrison's web site at Weissinger .

NALL children of Mrs. Smith - Caroline (m Strong), Robert, Jane (w m Doty), Ann (who m McElroy) and Willis (d early left widow childless.).
