Lesser Villages in Pickens County Through the years, Randy, you will always be familiar with Carrollton, Gordo, Reform, Aliceville, and Pickensville. But you will often read about things that happened in some of the older villages in this town, in this county. So it is necessary that I tell you that when you read about Yorkville, that is where Ethelsville is today. And Franconia was just north of Aliceville, a little tiny village. South of Aliceville, on Lubbub Creek, there where Grayson's Store is now, was Bridgeville. And down below that was a village called Vienna. And of course I have told you about the rivertowns of Memphis and Fairfield. Gordo was one of the last towns to be organized in the county. It was an early settlement known as AThe Crossroads just north of Gordo, but, not until the railroad came through was the little settlement moved down to the railroad track and named Gordo.
