EARLY FAMILIES OF WILCOX COUNTY:

BURSON. Sharman Ramsey's history of the Burson Family of Furman, which includes the Barge, Knight, Palmer, Hartwell, and Dunn lines, appears on her Southern-Style website. A photo of Wakefield, the plantation home once owned by her grandparents, graces the front page of the site.

DUNNAM. James Dunnam's history of the Dunnam Family details the settling of Methodist Minister Rev. Robert Commander Dunnam, Jr. in Wilcox County as well as the journey of Robert Commander Dunnam, Sr. from South Carolina to the Mississipi Territory. He provides several source documents including the will of R.C. Dunnam Sr. One the executors of that will was Samuel Ervin.

ERVIN. Bob Ervin's biographies of Samuel Ervin and his son Robert Hugh Ervin trace the journey of this family from South Carolina to settlement at Coal Bluff, Wilcox County.

FELTS. The Felts Family of Wilcox County, Alabama, a book by Dianne DaLee traces the descendants of James H. Felts through eight generations and 200 years. An index of surnames included in the book can be found here.

GEE.  The Gee Estate page traces the family of John Gee from his birth in So. Carolina in 1813 through his arrival at the Gees Bend plantation in Wilcox County around 1855. The page links to the GEEnealogy page, a site with extensive resources for Gee surname researchers.

HAWTHORNE.  The history of the Hawthorne-King-Ramsey Family of  Pine Apple by Sharman Ramsey.

KENNEDY.  Tommy Bryant has written a book about the Kennedys of Darlington District, SC and Wilcox County, AL. The Wilcox County Kennedys were two first cousins who came in the 1840s, and one branch had a large family, with descendants still in the area.  The other, David Kennedy, had only two daughters, who went back to SC after the Civil War, and raised their families there. 

MILLER. The Millers of Oak Hill, Wilcox County. A short biography of Benjamin Meek Miller (b.1864), Governor of Alabama 1931-1935. Governor Miller's father, Rev. John Miller, was the first pastor of Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill. He also served as headmaster of the Wilcox Female Institute in Camden.

MORGAN. Michael A. Morgan has written a history of the Morgan and related families in the form of a letter to his family entitled A Morgan Family Reunion.

SHEFFIELD. The Sheffield Family. A concise biography of Adam Sheffield (b.1811) and William Sheffield (b.1841), descendants of Isaac Sheffield and Elizabeth Hare of Pine Hill, Wilcox County. Includes an outline of the Sheffield lineage through six generations.
