Index ECAR Units by county RAN-CLAY-L text Links

CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS & THEIR UNITS

  • If you have visited this page recently, it is a good idea to click Reload/Refresh to be sure you are seeing the latest version.

  • This table listing contains Civil War soldiers reported as being from the 20-county East Central Ala area, or buried there, with known military units.

  • This is the result of a suggestion that members of the RAN-CLAY-L mailing list (which covers the same counties as the East Central Alabama Researchers webpage) submit the names of such individuals from their own research.

    • A text listing, showing only submissions from RAN-CLAY-L members can be accessed with the "RAN-CLAY-L text" link above.

    • The purpose was to gain a perspective on which military units were manned by men from this area while at the same time learning more the families studied by list members.

    • It will not be the purpose of this list to amass all names available from any source on this list. The emphasis will be to use the research of individuals or data obtained from cemetery listings. This should result in source data not readily available elsewhere.

    • We will continue indefinitely to post the names from the research and families of list members in both listings.

    • In the table listing only, we will continue to post limited amounts of data from other sources such as cemetery listings in order to gain representation for missing areas or unrepresented units.

  • You may use your browser search feature (Control-F for Netscape or IE) to search for a specified "string" of characters, e.g., a surname such as SMITH, or a unit such as 13th.

  • The "Source" will either be the email link for the person providing the information or will be the URL of the on-line source. If the source is an email link, additional information is usually available.

  • Numerous links are provided at the end of the list, including names of hundreds of additional soldiers.

  • Report corrections/additions to: Maggie Stewart

UNIT RECRUITING BY COUNTY

  • Thanks to Cindy Bray and Elisabeth Green Streeter for the Randolph County information. The contributions of each are identified. Neither is responsible for the fusion I have made of their submissions.

  • Thanks to Ken Jones Electric Projects for most of the information provided.

  • It must be remembered that many changes in county lines have taken place since the Civil War.

  • Report corrections/additions to: Maggie Stewart
