Looking west from the Turner Hotel (second floor of Harkin's Store) at
the old County Courthouse (upper left)
and square. The men in the
foreground are hauling cotton down Temple Avenue, which was and
still is the main north-south axis of Fayette. The year is
1898. Note the woman standing on the upper porch in the right
background shaking out a blanket (see enlarged image here). The original photo is
only 2" x 2.5" so the recovery of detail is a miracle.
