CARVILL

Hi:

My great-great grandfather, George William Carvill, was a planter near Carlowville, in Dallas County in the mid 1800's (about 1835-1843). I'm looking for maps of the area from that time period. We have recently discovered a treasure trove of letters from GWC and his family members to relatives in London, written from 1834 to 1867 (the originals are in the Western Historical Manuscript Collection, at the University of Missouri, in Columbia, Missouri). I have copies of those letters, and we are in the process of transcribing them and posting them to our family web site. If you are interested, you are welcome to link to that site at http://www.fitzhugh.org. In any case, please feel free to visit the site. Thanks for your time.

CRAIG

I have done a good bit of research on the Craig family, especially Robert and Martha Hayes Craig family from near Selma before, during and after the Civil War. I have had most of my questions answered about them and would be glad to help someone else who is researching some of these people.

The Craigs originally came to Charleston from County Antrim, Ireland in 1789. The moved to Tennessee about 1807 and lived in Tennessee until 1817, 1818, 1820 when each of them moved to near Selma. Craig Hill Cemetery was named for this family. The matriarch of the family, Catherine ( Katy) Craig, was buried in Craig Hill in 1824 at the age of 84 years.

Some of Robert and Martha (Patsy) Craig's children moved to Texas, some to Mississippi and some are buried at Prosperity Cemetery in Dallas County.

Robert and Martha Hayes Craig are buried at Prosperity Cemetery. Most of these people were Associate Reformed Presbyterians.

I will be glad to share my information with anyone who needs it.

MACK, John Christopher - John C. Mack and his wife Mary Jane RUSSELL were counted in the 1830 census for Dallas Co., AL. They bought property in the corner that later became Lowndes Co., AL. The children in the home for the 1830 census were: 2 males under 5, 1 male 5 to 10, 1 male 10 to 15, 2 females under 5, 2 females 5 to 10, and 1 female 10 to 15. Only the two males under 5 have been identified, they were John Bishop MACK b. 1828 AL and Ezra R. MACK b. abt. 1830 AL. Who were the other children? The other children were not in the home to be counted for the 1840 census of Lowndes Co., AL. Had they died or were they already married and gone? Both John Bishop and Ezra R. MOORE

Please excuse the cross-posting. I am seeking information concerning the identity of Rev. William Moore, buried in the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church cemetery (Dallas Co.) in Row XIII. His headstone reads "Rev. William Moore, who died Nov. 4, 1831, aged 40 years, 6 mos, 4 days"

A Rev.William Moore officiated at the wedding of Philip Milhous & Rebecca Vasser 11 May 1825 (Dallas Co.). I found the abstract of the will of William Moore (Moor) Oct. 22, 1831 [will proved on January 2, 1832, Lowndes Co.]

Although the short span of time between the will of William Moor(e) of Lowndes and the death of Rev.William Moore may be merely a coincidence, I know that there are relatives of William Moor buried quite close to Rev. William Moore.

Any and all suggestions appreciated!
