Saunders of Georgia May 20, 1816. She died in 1818. Exact date Mr. Harris came to Alabama is not known; first came to Talapoosa County in 1830, he m. Sarah A. Walton of Montgomery. After moving around, he came from Chambers County and settled near Salem, 1838. About 1850 he built a home in Salem known as the "Harris House." He was a regular tenter for several years at the Salem campground. A farmer, Mason, Methodist and a politician. Children: John G., only one of five survived by first m. Charles R. was killed in Confederate army, Francis A., Edmond S., Sarah J., Brittian D., and Jane. HARRIS, James M. -- b.(1810-___) m. Elizabeth _____b. 1813, in Ga. Settled in Russell (now Lee) before 1835. He was a farmer, a Justice of the Peace in Russell County in 1855, 1856, and 1857; a Lieutenant in the War of 1836; clerk of Concord Missionary Baptist Church fro many years. Children: Martha, Sarah, Rebecca, Ann, ALexander, James, and Mary. HIGHTOWER, Rolla - b. 1800 in Ga., m. Tabitha ____ b.1810 in Georgia. Settled in Russell (now Lee), 1833, south of Salem. A farmer and a member of Salem Masonic Lodge in 1856. Children: Frances, Wallis, Newton, Weldon, Eliza, and Young. HILL, Isaac - Was in Salem in 1835 amd settled abouth two miles south. He aided in organizing the Salem Methodist Church in 1835, soon moved to Macon County. Isaac Hill m. Mary Upton Dec 23, 1846. [Russell County Marriage Records] HOUSTON, Edward A. - {1844-1875} from N.C. : m. Martha B. Dawkins {1848-1900} from Georgia in 1866. Bought land on the Chattahoochee River and set up Houston's Ferry. Served in Confederate Army. When he returned home, he and his wife setled on a farm near Salem that his wife inherited. After his death, his wife and four children lived in th old Asker Hotel, then moved to West Point, Georgia. Edward and Martha Houston are buried in Salem Methodist Cemetery. JARRELL. Smith C. {1825-____} from Ga.; m Mary A Horn {b 1832} from South Carolina March 6, 1849. He was a farmer. One Child: Cinderilla. JARRELL, Thomas {b.1819 - }was from Georgia; m. Martha Kent {b. 1825} was from Georgia., m. (Oct 27, 1844) by George A Jarrell. He was a farmer. Children: Elizabeth, George, & Sarah.
