Volunteers needed
If you request that a lookup be made for you:
- Please note what the volunteer has said that he or she is willing to do. Don't ask
for anything else.
- Please be very specific what you are asking. It is impossible to do
lookups on a "you-know-what-I-mean" basis.
- Please remember that you are making the request of a volunteer who is
generously providing this free service, and who is not obligated to you in any fashion.
- Do the "Barney thing" and be sure to say "Thank you!". This is a volunteer's only
reward.
What's a Look-up? The idea is the owners of printed material or those with access to various records, volunteer to look up a surname in the book or records they own or have access to. Unfortunately, this may not be fair to the author(s) of the books who have devoted a lot of time and energy to publish. It is NOT our desire to violate anyone's copyright, or deprive them of the means of making a profit from their endeavors. For this reason, USGenWeb has established the following policy on lookups: USGenWeb's Official Policy on Lookups USGenWeb will not tolerate any copyright violations. Lookup requests should be limited to one name, or perhaps two if it is a married couple. Information given will be minimal, for example if it is a cemetery lookup, the information will be the name of the cemetery and the dates on the headstone. Please do not ask for hardcopies to be mailed; the volunteers have been asked not to comply with such requests. Our lookups will extend to searching the book to determine if the book would be helpful to you in your research. Should the book prove useful, we can provide the authors address and ordering information.
The USGenWeb Project will endeavor to get a WRITTEN statement from each copyright holder which stipulates which books may be used for lookups.
Having said that, please feel free to request a look-up directly from the following resources. Please limit your requestto one name per request. Please put ELMORE COUNTY LOOKUP in the subject line of your request to insure the message is not overlooked or accidentally deleted. In the first line of the message please put the name of the book from which you are requesting the lookup. If you request a lookup, don't forget to thank your volunteer for their time.
It is always a good idea to tell the volunteer where you learned of their offer.
