Abraham and Clarissy Seale

Abraham Seale, was born about 1794 in South Carolina, died February 19, 1873 in Shelby County Alabama. He married in South Carolina to Clarissy, born about 1805 in South Carolina, died July 27, 1863 in Shelby County Alabama. Abraham, a brother to Greenberry Seale, was the son of Elijah and Nancy Seale. Elijah was a brother to Enoch Seale, my great-great-great grandfather.

Abraham and Clarissy Seale are found in Shelby County Alabama as early as the 1820 census records. Abraham, an older brother to Green Berry Seale, was the son of Elijah and Nancy Seale. After the death of their father, Elijah Seale, on October 4, 1824 in Shelby County Alabama, Green Berry Seal, Abraham Seal, and James Musick, husband to Harriet Seale Musick, signed a "Gift Deed" on June 6, 1825 in Shelby County Alabama to Meredith Seal and West Allen Seal. Elijah was the son of Charles and Lydia (Muse) Seale.

Abraham and Clarissy Seale had 11 children,  (1) Martha Seale, born November 2, 1817 in South Carolina. She married in Shelby County Alabama on September 19, 1839 to Blanton Moore, born about 1813 in South Carolina. He was a brother to George Moore and Susan Moore. Their parents were Farmer and Elizabeth Moore. Blanton and Martha Moore had three children, Parnecia Pauline Moore, married Simeon Armstrong, a son of Rev. William Walter Armstrong, Lucinda Moore, married John W. Brasher, and Amelia A. Moore, married Joseph H. Acker. (2) Amelia Seale, born September 18, 1819 in South Carolina, died May 3, 1892 in Shelby County Alabama. On November 16, 1845 in Shelby County Alabama she married George Moore, a brother to Blanton Moore and Susan Moore, born about 1827 in South Carolina. Their children were Martha Moore, married Daniel W. Evans, Blanton Moore, John Farmer Moore, Priscilla E. Moore, married Robert Wilson Poindexter, William Riley Moore, Thomas Moore, Allen L. Moore, and George Farmer Moore. The obituary, The Shelby Chronicle, dated Wednesday, May 11, 1892, "Mrs. Amelia Moore died on Tuesday, May 3, at the home of R.W. Poindexter, in Beat 8, aged 73 years. Mrs. Moore was the mother of Mrs. D.W. Evans of this place. She was a most estimable Christian lady and a life-long member of the Baptist Church. She leaves six children to mourn her death." (3) Louisa Seale, born April 15, 1821 in Shelby County Alabama, died May 14, 1896 in Shelby County Alabama. She married Rev. William Walter Armstrong, born August 22, 1810 in Tennessee, died October 25, 1903 in Shelby County Alabama. They had three children, Clarecy E. Armstrong, married Jesse Stone, Robert William Armstrong, and Eliza Hazeltine Armstrong, married David Franklin Stone. Jesse and David Franklin Stone were brothers, their parents were Thomas Stone and Martha Johnson. However, from the first marriage of Rev. William W. Armstrong to Elizabeth B. Dunlap, born about 1812 in South Carolina, died April 1850 in Shelby County Alabama, they had nine children, James Monroe Armstrong, Nancy A. Armstrong, 1836-1911, Joanah Armstrong, married Thomas G. Evans, Mary Catherine Armstrong, married William McClendon, John B. Armstrong, Asa Armstrong, William M. Armstrong, Simeon Armstrong, Elizabeth Jane Armstrong, married Andrew McCoy Hughes. Much of the Armstrong family information was graciously furnished by Carolyn J. Wilder. (4) Green Berry Seale, born December 6, 1822 in Shelby County Alabama. He died and is buried in Pontotoc County Mississippi. He married Elizabeth Walls in Shelby County Alabama on March 14, 1853. They had no children. (5) Joshua Seale, born January 8, 1826 in Shelby County Alabama, died December 6, 1900 in Walker County Alabama. He married in Shelby County Alabama on April 8, 1847 to Susan Moore, a sister to Blanton Moore and George Moore, born June 10, 1828 in South Carolina, died February 19, 1890 in Walker County Alabama. They are buried in Old Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Carbon Hill, Walker County Alabama. Their children were Manerva Jane Seale, 1846-1927, married Michael Radafus Crenshaw, Henry Huey Seale, 1852-1906, Lousilla Seale, 1855-1927, married John Wesley Payne, William David Seale, 1858-1902, Marlin Seale, and John Mathis Seale, 1867-1925. (6) Nancy P. Seale, born December 4, 1826 in Shelby County Alabama. On October 30, 1860 in Shelby County Alabama she married Blanton Moore, the husband of her deceased sister, Martha. Blanton and Nancy Moore had three children, Martha M. Moore, married Pinkney Newton Gilbert, William R. Moore, and Clarissa E. Moore. (7) Stephen Harmon Seale, born January 8, 1829 in Shelby County Alabama, died December 19, 1908 in Dallas County Alabama. He is buried in Summer Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbiana, Shelby County Alabama. His last two wives are buried beside him. His first marriage in Shelby County Alabama on February 12, 1852 was to Elizabeth Bridges, born September 1, 1837, died November 28, 1871 in Shelby County Alabama. "Elisabeth Seal" is buried in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church cemetery. Their children were Hugh Alfred Seale, Thomas B. Seale, Nancy Jane Seale, married William J. Parker, Christopher Columbus Seale, Stephen Farmer Seale, CLICK HERE and read about his daughter Miss Faye Seale chosen Miss Alabama on October 28, 1921 in a contest that was the forerunner of the present Miss Alabama competition at the Semi-Centennial Celebration in Birmingham, Madora Olivia Seale, married Jefferson Calloway Reinehardt, a son of Michael R. Reinehardt and Sarah Jane Holley, and Elizabeth Parlee Seale, married William Davison Bearden. The second marriage for Stephen Harmon Seale was in Shelby County Alabama on December 28, 1871 to Mrs. Mary Jane (Bridges) Seale, born November 9, 1839, died April 4, 1890 in Shelby County Alabama. Their child was Eunice Ellen Seale, married John A. Straiton. The first marriage for Mary Jane Bridges was in Shelby County Alabama on August 10, 1856 to James Pinkney Seale, an orphan in Shelby County Alabama in 1847, born February 18, 1835 in Shelby County Alabama, died in the Civil War on March 3, 1865 in Davidson County Tennessee. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Nashville City Cemetery, Davidson County Tennessee. It is my theory that his parents were William and Martha Seale and that he was a possible grandson of John Seale, a brother to Rev. William Seale. The children of Pinkney, as he was better known, and Mary Jane Seale were William T. Seale, John Alfred Seale, and Nancy Ellen Seale. The third marriage for Stephen Harmon Seale was in Shelby County Alabama on October 16, 1890 to Julia A. Bridges, born June 30, 1849, died October 28, 1905 in Shelby County Alabama. They had no children. His three wives were sisters and their parents were Thomas Bridges and Nancy Moore. The second marriage for Nancy Moore Bridges was in Shelby County Alabama on December 1, 1850 to James S. Musick, died March 26, 1865. His first wife was Harriet Seale, a sister to Abraham Seale and Green Berry Seale. Some of this information was obtained from a copy of the  "ledger"  that originally belonged to Stephen Harmon Seale. (8) David Seale, born April 2, 1830 in Shelby County Alabama. (9) John Robert Seale, born about 1837 in Shelby County Alabama. On April 25, 1858 in Shelby County Alabama he married Julia A. Miller. Their child was William J. Seale, born about September 1859 in Shelby County Alabama. John R. Seale died in 1864 as a Private Co. "E" 29th Alabama Regiment Infantry, C.S.A. The Alabama Civil War Pension record indicates Julia A. Seale, widow, filed a claim on September 16, 1864. Her second marriage on April 26, 1867 in Shelby County Alabama was to Elbert M. Kendrick, born April 28, 1848, died April 18, 1925 in Shelby County Alabama. E.M. Kendrick is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Chelsea, Shelby County Alabama. (10) Manerva Jane Seale, born March 6, 1840 in Shelby County Alabama, died June 3, 1909 in Foard County Texas. On January 3, 1867 in Shelby County Alabama she married Rev. Martin Ervin Brooks Jones, 1845-1928. His parents were Martin Jones, born May 16, 1816, died January 7, 1846 in Shelby County Alabama, and Keziah Busby, born December 15, 1812, died August 16, 1890 in Shelby County Alabama. Keziah Jones, daughter of Rev. Meredith Busby, is buried in Summer Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbiana, Shelby County Alabama. The children of Rev. M.E.B. and Manerva Jane Jones were Mary K. Jones, 1868-1885, John Ervin Jones, 1869-1871, Martha Catherine Jones, 1872-1961, married James Crawford, Martin Harmon Jones, 1874-1950, Mahala E. Jones, 1876-1966, married Joe Skipworth, Nancy Jane Jones, 1879-1967, married Spring Bridges, and Burwell Walter Jones, 1881-1952.
