David Lindsay, often spelled Lindsey, served with the Washington County
Pennsylvania Militia during the Revolutionary War. He and his family were listed
in the Mississippi Territory in 1816 (later became Alabama Territory, Madison
County Alabama) and is listed in Shelby County Alabama as early as the 1820
census. David Lindsay, born circa 1745 in Pennsylvania, died ante
1837 in Shelby County Alabama, and his wife, Mary Casey Lindsay,
1750-1847, are buried in the David Lindsay Historical Cemetery Site, along
Shelby County Highway 17, south of Helena, Shelby County, Alabama. On June 19,
2017 "David Lindsay Historical Cemetery Site" was favorably reviewed and listed
on the "Alabama Historic Cemetery Register" with
The Alabama
Historical Commission. Also, it is on the "Alabama Cemetery Register". The historic cemetery marker was dedicated by the David Lindsay
DAR Chapter in Shelby County Alabama on September 9, 2018. They are my
great-great-great-great-grandparents.
For the past several years the National Society Daughters of the American
Revolution and the National Society Sons of the American Revolution did not
accept David Lindsay's Revolutionary War service. However, in a letter dated
April 25, 2007 from the Office of the National Society D.A.R. Historian General,
addressed to the David Lindsay Chapter D.A.R., "After years of research, and
with great assistance from your chapter, the Genealogy Department within the
Office of the Registrar General has been able to approve and verify David
Lindsay's Revolutionary War service." Click
