I hope these notes will provide clues as to the location of these people during this period of time. I have attempted to keep the spelling of the names as I saw them in the records.

Personally appeared before me in open court Williams Caddell Clerk of the County Court for said County of Bibb, Martin Peters of the of Twiest/Ziest Germenacy [Zeitz, Germany?] who being sworn upon the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God the truth to speak says that he is a native of the above named country that he is about 47 years of age that he removed himself from Gerenay and the Emperior of Austria to the government of the United States with the express view of becoming a citizen of the latter and that he does forever denounce all other Kings, Potentates, and governments other than that of the United States and that he is now an inhabitant of the state of Alabama."
