Barnabus Turner Bailey (son of Wyatt and Margaret Bailey) married Mary Margaret Mitchell (daughter of Joseph and Nancy {Owens} Mitchell) on 10 Jan. 1850 in Bibb Co., AL. The family is included in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Bibb Co., AL, census.

B. T. Bailey enlisted on 28 Mar 1862 as a private in Co. F, 44 Regt. AL Infantry. Pension records are on file in the State Archives in Montgomery, AL. He served in Co. F, 44th Regiment of Alabama Infantry for 3 years. In 1896 his taxable property consisted of 169 acres of land, 3 horses, 4 cows, and 6 shotes. On April 15, 1898, his taxable property consisted of 169 acres of land, 2 ponies, 2 cows, and 5 yearlings. He was on furlough sick when the war ended and surrendered at Selma, Alabama, on March 17, 1865. His testimony indicates that he was not wounded during the war and was honorably discharged. He further states that he cannot earn a living because his left eye is out, he is nearly blind in his right eye, and suffers from an unstable bladder and piles. In 1900 his status was changed because he was totally blind.

THE STATE OF ALABAMA
Perry County.

To the Honorable Board of Pension Examiners for said County:

Your petitioner, B. T. Bailey, respectfully represents to your honorable board that he is a resident citizen of Perry County, in the State of Alabama, and that he resided in said State on the first day of January in the year 1899. That he enlisted in the service of the State, or Confederate States, as a private in Company F in the 44th Ala. Inf. Regiment on the __ day of __ 1862, at Scottsville, Bibb County in the State of Alabama, and that he was honorably discharged from such service on the __ day ___ 1865, that he did not desert the service of the Confederate States, or of the State of Alabama; That he was wounded at the battle of ___ in the State of __; That he is now unable to make a living by manuel labor on account of old age and blindness; That he is at the time of filing this application 78 years of age, and that his post office address is Ironville?, Alabama; That he does not own property either in his own name, nor that of his wife, to the value of four hundred! ($400) dollars; that his annual income does not exceed four hundred ($400) dollars, and that he has no children upon whom he can depend for support. Your petitioner files herewith a complete schedule of all the property owned by himself and wife. In consideration of the foregoing facts, your petitioner asks that his name be placed upon the pension rolls in the class that your honorable board may adjudge him to belong, that he may participate in the division of the fund provided for the relief of Confederate and Alabama soldiers and their widows, by act of the General Assembly approved February 10, 1899.
