1. ALEXANDER1 AVERY was born 1726, and died 1808. He married SARAH MOORE.Notes for ALEXANDER AVERY:Children of ALEXANDER AVERY and SARAH MOORE are:
Saw some Avery Information from you on the Bibb Co AL Gen Web-page. I would like to learn what you know about the Averies in Bibb Co before 1860. I am researching the following Avera/Avery line and I believe that some of them were early in Bibb, Perry, and/or Greene counties. However, I need to sort them out so as to get the right connections and documentation. Your help will be appreciated.
Below is a sketch of what I have and believe, but I might be wrong about some of it. Please help.
Thomas Avera, Sr, testator 1761, Johnston Co NC and Richard Ingram, testator 1781, Johnston Co NC were contemporaries and friends. Thomas died young and Richard died old which accounts for the 20 year spread in Will dates. Three children of each married each other, and their descendents were prolific.
Over a decade or so, beginning about 1787, some of their children and grandchildren migrated to Wilkes Co GA. Later they clustered in and around Putnam Co GA through 1835 or so. They moved west in the next generation. They settled in such places as Muscogee and Harris counties GA and over into AL.
However, another group may have moved more directly or quickly to AL. There is hard evidence that Jillmon [Jillman] KC Pool, Ridley Pool, William H Pool and wife Sally Pool were all in Perry Co AL from Johnston Co NC before Oct 1822. Pools and Averas married each other in Johnston Co NC. There is also a marriage noted below between William Pool and Zilpha Avery, 1824, Greene Co AL.
The 1836 Bibb Co AL Court records contain circumstantial evidence that strongly suggests a connection between the Averas of Johnston Co NC and the Averies of Bibb Co AL. These 1836 Bibb Co AL records establish the legal heirs of Henry Avery, Sr as: John, Samuel, Thomas, William, Henry, Alexander, and Arthur Avery.
Now compare this list with the 1761 Will of Thomas Avera, Sr, Johnston Co NC, in which he named the following male children: John, Samuel, Thomas, William, Henry, and Alexander. Thomas Avera, Sr's wife was pregnant at the time of his death and the unborn child was later named Arthur. That is a 100% match of names. All circumstantial of course.
1859 Bibb Co AL Court records name Ingraham Rhodes with Avery witnesses. The Ingrams (Ingraham at times), Averas, Rhodes, Cutts, Pools, and Stallings were associated and kin in Johnston and Cumberland counties NC during the last half of the 18th and the first part of the 19th centuries. Beginning about 1820 or so, AL records show these same families in Greene, Perry, and Bibb counties AL.
There is a 15 May 1822, Greene Co AL record of a Deed of Gift from William Avera, Sr. to "my children as follows: William Avera; Caron Avara, now Wife of Sherrod Cutts; and, Elizabeth Avera, now Wife of Bryant Rodds [Rhodes], now living in AL." [I take this to mean that all of those named were in AL, as in fact they were. The question is, where was William Avera Sr? and exactly who was he? Also, these are all Johnston Co NC names.]
Some Avery researchers speculate that this William Avary, Sr, was the Revolutionary son or grandson of Thomas Avera, Sr, testator 1761. It is possible that this Deed of Gift was also recorded in either Johnston or Cumberland Co NC, but I have not yet found it. I would like to establish where this William Avera, Sr was when he made this Deed of Gift. I assume that he could have been in AL or in NC or in some other state.
[The surname Avera or Avery was spelled various ways in this Deed of Gift. In Johnston Co NC, the literate descendents of Thomas Avera, Sr. usually preferred the spelling of Avera. Later, among those who went first to GA and then to AL, the preferred spelling was usually Avery.]
Sharard [Sherrod] Cutts' Bibb Co AL Will, 27 Feb 1829, names his daughter Jain [Jane?] Averra the Wife of Thomas Averra. His wife was Caron [various spellings], the daughter of William Avera, Sr as noted above.
Bryant Rhodes later left a 6 Sep 1836 Will, Greene Co AL. His wife was Elizabeth, the daughter of William Avera, Sr as noted above. Apparently he died with minor orphan children who were possibly raised in Perry Co AL by an Avery family living next to a William H. Rhodes and a Bryant Avery according to the census.
There is a marriage record for a William Poole and a Zilpha Avery in Greene Co AL, 8 Nov 1824. [Zilpha Ingram, daughter of Richard Ingram, testator 1781, married Samuel Avera, son of Thomas Avera, testator 1761. They were married in Johnston Co NC, Feb 1779, and they were in Wilkes Co GA by 1787. My belief is that Zilpha Ingram Avera had many children named in her honor.]
I could go on, but if you can help me sort this out, please contact me.

Notes for LUERELL HALLMAN:
Luerell wrote the following of her parents:
"Georgia Ann Avery was from the lineage of English immigrant, Christopher Avery (Avary), of the Massachusetts Bay colony of 1635. She was born December 23, 1883 to William Avery and Olivia Wooley Avery. Grandma Olivia told me my mama was always small in stature but big in the ability to get things done. At age 16, she met and married Charles Wesley Hallman, a hard working young man who felt a call to the ministry. This union produced eleven children, six boys and five girls. I was the youngest girl and as a result, was home with mama after my sisters were married. Mama and I were very close, she confided and depended on me alot. I adored her. She looked fragile and pretty, but behind that look was an abundance of strength and stamina. Mama had a brilliant and well nourished mind. She read every night and loved and knew the Bible well. We were brought up by the Ten Commandments. She also had her Blue Book Speller, that she loved to read, as well as our school books. She would read our history , georgraphy, and science books often and amazingly retained all that she read. The newpaper was improtant to her as well. She always kept up with current events. Mama wasn't formally educated as far as schooling went, but was a quick learner with a desire to learn more. Mama could have lunched with a Ph. D. and felt at ease, sharing her wisdom and learning from him or her as well. Mama stayed home and took care of the children, giving Papa the freedom to work in the Ministry. She taught us that cleanliness was next to Godliness, both physically and spiritually. Mama was a great homemaker and nutrition was important to her. A meal she cooked and served was well prepared. As we each found our mates in life and married, mama made each in-law feel loved and welcome. She always helped out when necessary, and still took the time to care for her aging parents. Robert married Anita cox; Rossie married Lola Mae Hamric; Roy married Ruby Lee Hamric; Raymond died as an infant; Rona died at age 14 or 15; Ruby married Robert Forister; Ressie married Andrew Garrison; James married Lee Ola Price; Willie Mae married Dewey Weaver; Luerell married Gashol Abston and Charles married Evelyn Mallet. These unions produced thirty-one grandchildren and many great grandchildren. I believe Mama felt fulfilled and proud of her husband and children. Papa receded Mama in death by about two years. Mama went to receive her reward on July 22, 1961. A monument sits in the cemetery of the Christian Union Church, Brookwood, Alabama bearing the name of Reverend Charles W. And Georgia Ann Hallman. Cherished memories lie beneath the sod. Sources: Luerell Hallman Abston, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404; Family History and Family Tradition; Avery Genealogical Research."

I was on Ancestry.com recently and searched on my grandfather's name John Ancie Bracknell. His name came up with your name as the submitter of information.
His spouse was listed as "Living Caddell". That would be Rowena Caddell, my grandmother who actually died in June of 1970. John Ancie died in July 1993. His sibling's were "Huey Chester" and "Living Bracknell". "Living" would be Hopy Hoyt Bracknell, who passed away in 1996 or 1997; Uncle Hopy died childless, his wife Marie passed away in April, 1993. Uncle Chester had one child, Chester Jr., who died a few years back. We know very little of Chester Jr and any family he may have had.
John Ancie and Rowena had one child, Edith Marilyn Bracknell, who married Elbert Horton Barnes. They have two sons, Elbert Horton Barnes, Jr., and me, John Austin Barnes. Both my brother and I have had children of our own.

Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates."
