My Carter family as well as the McSpadden, Camp and Lowry families are among the first families of Bibb Co. Ala. Revolutionary Vet. Charles Carter B. 1762 in what was later to become Powhatan co Va the son of Daniel Carter b. about 1737 after the revolution in 1806 sold his land in Cumberland co Va and moved with his wife Susannah Wright to Jefferson co Tn. Sometime before 1820 his wife died and the family split up with Charles Carter Sr. moving to McMinn Co Tn where he died with a will in 1841.
Two of his sons Charles Carter Jr and Samuel Carter moved about 1818 to the Bibb county area along with brother William Carter and Sister Nancy P McSpadden. Samuel Carter b. abt 1800 married in 1821 in Bibb co Ala to Sabrina Camp the daughter of early squatter Abishia Camp a crusty early Bibb county deacon who put much store in his bible and Hymn book. Sabrina's grandfather Robert Looney died in 1824 in Pendleton Sc with Abishia keeping her inheritance for her some 20 years...until his own will.
Samuel Carter had a farm on the edge of Centreville in Tw 19 living near Sister Nancy P. McSpadden. Samuel was a captain in the early Alabama militia being involved in the early Indian wars. His brother Charles Carter Jr lived on his farm at 6 mile.

Samuel Carter Family: Samuel Carter m. Sabrina Camp 1821 Bibb Ala. Samuel died in 1849 and his Uncle James Camp an early businessman in the Iron industry helped provide for his orphans.
Sons: Allen H. Carter, Barton B. Carter, Samuel P. Carter, Albert W. Carter all sons were in the civil war with Allen in the 44th Ala, as was Albert, Barton was in the 2nd Louisiana, and Samuel P. Carter was in the 20th Ala, dying at Vicksburg while serving under Cousin William Fletcher Lowry of Bibb Ala., a Capt who kept a journal during the war.
Daughters Louisa E. Brown and Narcissa Jane Thompson married and continued living in the Bibb area. Both being mentioned in a 1950 newspaper article by S.L. Johnson "A brief history of Bibb County.
