Herman, I have in my records that John's 1st wife was Martha Garrett, the 2nd was Joanna Jacks. You left out daughter Jane who married Archibald Hogan. Their "Plantation" house is in the Tannehill State Park. Their daughter Ann married John Thomas Moses. J.T. Moses sister married Richmond C. Caffee. She was Cintha or Cynthia Moses. From The South Western Baptist Newspaper 30 Apr 1857: "Died on the 18th of March at the residence of his son-in-law,
James Vance, in Bibb County, John A. Woods, age fifty-five years, twelve
days. Brother Woods was born in Pendleton District, South Carolina; removed
from there to Tennessee with his father when small and from thence to Bibb
County, Alabama in 1817. In 1822 he was married to Mary Calfee by whom he
had eight children. In 1832 he professed religion and though raised by
Presbyterian parents he united with the Baptist church at Mt. Moriah, Bibb
County... Some four or five years ago he removed to Mississippi; shortly
after which time he became sorely afflicted and from which he never
recovered. Last winter he returned to Bibb County in company with his wife
with a view of spending the winter and perhaps the next summer in that
region in the hope that it would prove beneficial to his health..."
Says on the Tombstone that he died in 1875..

....here at the Memphis Library..... It has listed that Phillip Shuttlesworth married his second wife Nancy
Calfee, daughter of John Calfee, on October 17, 1933, in bibb county.
Nancy Calfee was born ca. 1814 in Tenneesee.
After Phillip died, she remarried too WILLIAM VANCE on april 11, 1856. She
died March 14, 1887, and is buried in the VANCE FAMILY CEMETERY.
The book didnt have any info on PHILLIP'S first wife.

HUSBAND and WIFE SUCCUMB TO PNEUMONIA
Funeral Services Held For Both In Dodson, Tuesday, With Interment In Winnfield Cemetery
Flu followed by pneumonia caused the death of Mr. Samuel R. Wood at his home in Dodson, December 29, 1932 and the death of his wife, Mrs. Wood, Monday, January 2, 1933. Their request upon learning that they were both seriously ill was that they be buried together.
Funeral services for both were held at the Dodson Baptist Church, Tuesday, morning at 10o'clock. Business houses and schools in Dodson were closed and a large body of friends attended the last rites. The Rev. A. H. Cullen and the Rev. Alwin Stokes, of Winnfield, and the Rev. Hysell, of Hodge, had charge of the services. Thomas Ware rendered a beautiful solo. Interment was in the Winnfield
Cemetery.
Mr. Wood was the son of S. R. Wood and Sarah Little Wood. He was born Oct.2,1864 in Sallis, Miss. He joined the Baptist church at Sallis, Miss., at the age of 21 years, serving as deacon in 1907 at
Leland, Miss.
Mrs. Wood was the daughter of John D. Russell and Mary H. Rainey Russell. She was born March 9, 1865 in Sallis, Miss. Her maiden name was Cordelia Isadora Russell. She joined the Baptist Church at the age of 20 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Wood were married in Durant, Miss., March 10, 1885, by the Rev. W.W. Williams. They resided in Dodson and Winnfield since 1918, where Mr. Wood was engaged in railroad work. Besides their five children they have reared five orphans.
The surviving children are W.W. Wood and Sam R. Wood, Jr., of New Orleans, Mrs.Ruby J.
Anderson, Winnfield; Ambrose Wood, Winnfield; and Mrs. Dora W. Winnans, Canton, Miss. Mrs.
Wood is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Russell Hunt, of Ackerman, Miss.
**Even tho this obituary states the last name for Samuel Rufus and Cordelia as Wood, it has been well
documented to be WOODS.
Samuel R. Woods was a member of the Knights of Pythias, the emblem is on his tombstone. He was
also a member of the Ku Klux Klan. His grandson, Qunicy Anderson has possession of his membership
card.
