A little later, I will supply you with what it takes to tie in my and Shirley's Wyers to yours. You have FTM, I have FAMILY ORIGINS, but I don't think that will be any hinderance. What it all boils down to is that you go back to Leroy's father (we call him Old John because there are so many John Wyers) and give him a brother named Frederick. Frederick married Sophia Stockman in Perry Co. in 1836 and they had 4 children -POLLY, CAROLINE, JOHN ANDREW and DANIEL Caroline was my g.g. grandmother and John Andrew was Shirley's g.g. Grandfather. We think Old John's and Frederick's father was JOSEPH WHYER who died in Newberry Co. , SC in 1814. Living near Joseph were Fikes. Hartleys, Hollmans, Kinnards, Leitzes, Legrones, Nichols and other families who later had some of their kin come to Bibb and Perry County. Also, Georg Johann Hartley witnessed and signed Joseph's will. We would like to have more verification.

We believe (but cannot yet prove) that Elizabeth Catherine was the daughter of John WYERS who married Patience, "Patsy," COLBURN in Perry County, AL on 11 Nov 1834. We know of 3 children produced by that marriage--Leroy, Henry & Catherine. We have been able to trace Leroy to some extent, draw a zero on Henry and are making some progress on Catherine. We remain a little cautious of a definite tie-in because we still cannot identify the children of several WYERS in the 1840 Bibb & Perry County Censuses. There could have been another Catherine among them as they freely named children after kinspeople. Well anyway, I place Catherine with John and Patsy because she's listed in John WYERS' 1850 Bibb Census listing as a 9 year old daughter.

John and my g.g.g. grandfather, Frederick, appear to have been brothers. Both came to Perry County in the 1830's with (or about the same time as) the Fikes, Kinards, Harmons, Legrones and Stockmans. All came from the "Dutch Fork", a German settlement in lower Newberry County, South Carolina. The Colburns reportedly came from Edgefield County, just across the Saluda River from the Dutch Fork. The Dutch Fork was not Dutch, but German, the name coming from the German word, "Deutch," meaning German speaking."

"The Will of John Coleburn is dated 24 Aug 1838 & leaves his farm of 160 acres to his wife, who is not named in the Will. It also mentions that his mother was still alive. This John Colburn appears to be the one buried in the Marion Cemetery (19 Jun 1780 - Aug 1838). Also buried there was his wife, Patience, 11 Mar 1788 - 14 Jan 1854. After the death of John Colburn, she married William Chesnutt, 18 Feb 1841 in Perry Co. There is a marriage agreement dated 18 Feb 1840 between these two people at Book E, Page 552, Deed Records, Perry Co."

What I have on the MARGARET WYERS who married WILLIAM DUNCAN is somewhat
vague, but here it is:
Margaret (found as Margaret Elizabeth & Marguette E.) is thought to have been a daughter of John Wyers (old John) by his second wife, Elizabeth Harmon. The 1920 Bibb Census has 67 year old William Duncan heading family #64/64 in Eoline Beat. His wife is listed as 61 year old Margurette E. whose father was born in SC (that checks). A 17 year old daughter named Lizer Mae(?) is also listed. I have no idea of who their other children may have been as I have been unable to obtain William's listings in the 1900 & 1910 Censuses. William Duncan is said to be buried in Pondville Cemetery, but I have not seen his grave (could we get Jimmy to check this for us?). It would be interesting to see who is buried near him (if he is there) because Margaret is said to be buried in an unmarked grave in Payne Chapel Cemetery, across the river from Heilberger in Perry County. I have been to this lonesome cemetery, but found nothing of value due to most of
the graves being unmarked. I understand this is the area where several Duncans settled when they first came to Perry. Payne's Chapel Church no longer exists. A very old lady named GERTRUDE DUNCAN was contacted by Doris Jean Rowe last year in a Bibb Nursing Home. She related that her husband, Nathan Duncan, was a grandson of William Duncan who married Margaret Wyers. Undoubtedly, there are other living parties in the Bibb/Perry area who descended from Margaret and William, but time and distance have kept me from pursuing this to any extent. Should you discover anything, I would appreciate hearing about it.

Mr. Andrew Belcher has been elected Marshal of the Town of Centreville and has assumed his duties.
He has a great deal of patience, and will have to listen to the other fellows troubles. He request that
all public spirited citizens who would like to donate teams (probably refers to mules or horses to 
pull road building equipment) or labor for improvement of the streets to see him.

WITH 50TH ANNIVERSARY TEA

Mr. and Mrs. John Colburn celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary, Sunday June 1st, 1969 with an informal tea at their home No. 6 Housing project, in Brent. Friends and relatives were invited between the hours of one and five o'clock. The couple are the parents of 8 children, all of whom were present except one son, who is in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean. 
They have 29 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
