62.  SARAH FRANCES (FANNIE)8 PAGE (JAMES WESLEY7, SARAH ANN (SALLIE)6 CHISUM, JOHN5, JOHN4, JOHN3, JAMES (CHISUM)2 CHEASUM, RICHARD1 CHEESOME)89 was born 1851 in Polk County, Texas, and died in Hill County, Texas.  She married JAMES B. (JOE) COLLINS Abt. 1867 in Hill County, Texas.  He was born 1848 in Mississippi90, and died 16 October 1886 in Hill County, Texas91.

Notes for JAMES B. (JOE) COLLINS:
James B. (Joe) Collins is listed as John Collins on Page # 216 of the book  RICHLAND CROSSING "A       ting place for Johnny, not only because he could bet on the horses at the nearby Boles Race Track, but there he found time to play poker and seven-up, and win a few dollars.  He also developed a taste for whiskey, all this unknown to his parents.  He earned some spending money speculating on cotton and hides and became a partner with the husband of a cousin, John Collins.  Joe didn't have much influence on Johnny now, so he gave up and went to Navarro County."

James B. (Joe) Collins' wife is Sarah Frances (Fannie) Page 2nd daughter of James Wesley Page who is listed as Jim Page in the paragraph.  About two paragraphs later in the book on 24 December 1869 while John Wesley Hardin's father, Rev. James Gipson Hardin, was visiting nearby Johnny borrowed his father's horse and along with John Collins went to Boles Race Track where they entered the horse in several races and won, I quote from Pages 216-217.

"When they left the track, Johnny got into a poker game in a little building near a grocery store with some unsavory characters, one of whom was Jim Bradley, a known desperado from Arkansas.  John Collins was just an observer.  Johnny had removed his boots to get comfortable and became the big winner.  About midnight, it was evident these three grown men had conspired to rob Johnny, so instead of paying off, they pulled knives and pistols, took Johnny's pistol, and demanded his money.  Collins stepped in, allowing Johnny time to jump through a window.  He ran scared on the frosty ground, barefooted, and took refuge behind a tree.  Collins came out and urged Johnny to go home, but he said he wasn't going back to face his father without his money, boots, and pistol.

Collins recovered the boots, loaned Johnny his pistol, and they started walking to their horses.  The robbers and about five others confronted them and again threatened to kill Johnny.  Bradley suddenly stepped out to block Johnny's path, a pistol in his hand and a knife in the other. He fired at Johnny, missed with the first, snapped on the second, and missed on the third.  Johnny shot him in the heart and followed with a shot to the head, and then emptied the pistol in him.  The others turned tail and ran, while he cursed them for being cowardly and deserting Bradley.

Johnny mounted his father's horse and rode to a friend's house.  There he borrowed another gun and returned for his money but could find none of the culprits.  Returning to Page's house, he woke his father at 2 A.M. to tell him of the incident.  Appalled, his father said, "Son, I came here to take you home to Navarro with me."

"I'll go with you, but tonight, Father, I think I should go across the river and hide until tomorrow night."

Jim Hardin agreed.  When Johnny returned the next night, he observed what looked like the whole town, a lynch mob, hunting him.  Slipping into town to meet his father at the prearranged place, Johnny was surprised by a posse of about fifteen men who surrounded him in a cotten pen where he holed up in a building.  They exchanged fire and finally asked for a truce to talk.  He told them if they would leave, he would go back to Jim Page's and surrender.  They agreed and left, but Johnny high-tailed it for Navarro County.  He spent a few days at home but kept a watchful eye for soldiers, who continued to roam the ridges now and then."

In an April 1981 issue of THE QUARTLY OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR OUTLAW AND LAWMAN HISTORY, INC. list the date as being 4 January 1870 and Collins name as being I. B. Collins.
